Lately I’ve been hearing a lot about another diet…It’s called Optavia, and it’s a perfect example of why you should STOP dieting.
I have to admit I cringe every time someone talks about it. I actually debated whether or not to mention the name of it as I don’t want to give you any ideas.
Going on this diet is NOT a good idea. Especially if you are someone who struggles with emotional eating and you have a history of yo-yo dieting. This diet will perpetuate that history.
The truth is, any quick-fix restrictive diet will perpetuate that history.
Why You Should STOP Dieting
Let’s face it. Any time you cut out real food and replace it with shakes, bars and powdered food you’re going to lose weight.
But is this sustainable for the long-term?
Can you go out a live your life eating this way or do you stop your life for the sake of weight loss?
It’s not a good trade.
What do you learn when you go on a diet like this?
- Do you learn to understand WHY you eat when you are not hungry?
- Do you figure out WHY you feel the need to clean your plate though you are full half way through?
- Are you figuring out how to change your relationship with food so that you don’t gain the weight back yet again?
When does one get tired of eating so many processed foods marketed to be low-cal, lite or fat free?
It’s no wonder why dieters are always hungry and struggling with cravings.
They’re depriving themselves of REAL food that tastes good. They fear some real mayo in tuna salad but yet they’ll binge on cookies, cakes or potato chips. Does that even make sense?
Perpetual dieters want the short cuts…the fastest route to the lower number on the scale. When you only focus on the scale, you are missing the bigger picture:
What it is that you need to do to make a REAL sustainable change?
Anything worth having takes effort and that includes having the tools and a new mindset to be able to lose weight slowly over time so that you can finally keep that weight off for good.
My message now and always is… if you’re tired of having to start over, stop dieting.
