Let me say this right off the bat—if you’ve been doing “all the right things” and still feel like your body isn’t cooperating, stress might be the hidden culprit.
I see this all the time as a weight loss accountability coach for women over 40. My clients are eating better, exercising more, staying consistent… but the scale won’t budge, the cravings won’t stop, and they feel exhausted and irritable. Sound familiar?
Here’s the thing: stress plays a huge role in weight loss, especially once we hit our 40s and beyond. And I don’t mean the occasional “ugh, this day is crazy” kind of stress. I’m talking about the kind that quietly builds day after day until you hit a wall.
Stress Might Be the Real Reason You’re Stuck
Not all stress is bad. There’s the kind that energizes you to push through a great workout or gives you purpose at work. But when your entire life starts feeling like a pressure cooker? That’s when stress becomes dangerous—especially when you’re trying to lose weight.
Before I work with a new client, I always ask a few key questions:
- How are you really feeling day to day?
- Do you have even five minutes to yourself?
- When’s the last time you were able to take a breath and just be?
If you can’t answer those questions easily, that’s a red flag. As your weight loss accountability coach, I need to understand not just what you’re eating or how much you’re moving, but what’s going on in your life—because that’s where the real transformation starts.
Stress shows up in your body in very real ways: tight shoulders, restless sleep, digestive issues, irritability, and mental fog. These signs are your body’s way of waving a red flag saying, “Hey! I need a break!”
Time Blocking: The Self-Care You Didn’t Know You Needed
Self-care doesn’t have to mean long bubble baths or spa days (although those are nice too). One of the most powerful self-care tools I teach my clients is time blocking.
Yep, getting organized can actually lower your stress levels.
For many of the women I coach, I am their time block. That weekly Zoom session with their weight loss accountability coach becomes a protected space to pause, breathe, and figure out what really matters that week. Together, we create structure—whether that’s planning meals, mapping out workouts, or scheduling time just to rest and recover.
When you start owning your time, you take back your power. And that, my friend, is where the magic happens.
Boundaries Are the Real MVP of Weight Loss
Setting boundaries can feel uncomfortable—especially if you’re used to putting everyone else first. But if you want to feel strong, energized, and in control of your health, you have to carve out time for yourself.
This is a conversation I have with nearly every client as their weight loss accountability coach: If you’re constantly running on empty, you’re not showing up as your best self for anyone. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s how you show up more fully for the people you love.
Start by asking yourself:
- What do I need right now?
- Do I feel worthy of putting myself first?
- Am I taking care of myself the way I deserve?
When you show up for yourself consistently, everyone around you benefits. That’s not selfish—that’s leadership.
Don’t Forget to Find the Fun Again
I recently asked a client what she was looking forward to this month—and she couldn’t come up with a single thing.
That’s not okay.
Joy is not a luxury. It’s fuel. It’s motivation. It’s what keeps us going even when life feels overwhelming.
As your weight loss accountability coach, I’m going to remind you every week to make time for joy. Whether it’s a walk with a friend, a take-out picnic in your living room, or just ten quiet minutes with your favorite book—this matters.
It helps shift your mindset out of survival mode and into a place where you feel more grounded, more connected, and more you.
Let’s Break the Stress Cycle—Together
If this all sounds a little too familiar, I want you to know: you’re not alone. And you’re not failing. You’re just stuck in a pattern—and patterns can be changed.
As a weight loss accountability coach, I’ve helped hundreds of women over 40 break the stress cycle, rebuild healthy habits, and finally feel in control of their health again.
And I’d love to help you do the same.
